If you want to fully comprehend God, you will be frustrated. He is infinitely multidimensional, meaning He doesn’t always fit in our “box.” It will take you all eternity to fully discover His infinite self. In the meantime, God will continually unveil new and greater sides of Himself to you, and you will see the greatness of His glory. This will only increase as we get closer to His second coming.
Let’s look at one side of God, as shown in Revelation 5: “And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?’ And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. But one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals’” (Revelation 5:1-5).
Opening this scroll meant something important was about to happen. This seven-sealed scroll is believed to be the title deed to the earth, like the deed to any house or property you own. When the book of Revelation was written in the first century, Romans had a custom of sealing their wills on scrolls, which declared who would receive a portion of their inheritance. A Roman would write a portion for one individual in their will on a scroll, roll it, seal it, and begin writing more. Each portion was sealed so no unauthorized persons could read it.
Earth is God’s permanent possession. He created it. Psalm 24:1-2 says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters.” God created man in His image to be the “tenant,” if you will, of the house He owns. He entrusted mankind to rule the earth.
God gave man temporary stewardship of the earth to the first man, Adam, but Adam lost this through sin. Adam gave up his authority, dominion, and stewardship, and the enemy took full advantage of this. However, God will not allow Satan to have dominion over the earth forever.
If you watch the news or just look around you, you’ll see evil increasing and advancing. This will not go on indefinitely. The enemy will not occupy the land forever. We see a type of this in Leviticus 25:23, “The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with Me.” God is saying, He owns the land, and He will take it back.
When God takes His dominion back, man will rule the earth again alongside God. However, this will not be done through the first Adam but through the last Adam (see I Corinthians 15:47), Jesus Christ our Redeemer, and those who belong to Him.
Leviticus 25:25 talks about the redemption of property: “If one of your brethren becomes poor, and has sold some of his possession, and if his redeeming relative comes to redeem it, then he may redeem what his brother sold.” Under God’s law, if you couldn’t pay your debt and lost your land, one of your family members could buy it back, or redeem it.
Without God, we are morally and spiritually bankrupt. After the fall, we needed someone to bail us from our debt. We needed someone to buy back the inheritance God originally set aside for mankind from the foundations of the world. Through Jesus Christ, we have been redeemed and can reclaim our inheritance as sons and daughters of God. Aren’t you glad we have Jesus Christ to redeem us and can rely on His promise to redeem our land?
