During a recent message on angels, I explained how angels can help Christians as they fulfill their assignments in the kingdom of God. I will now go more in depth about some of the different types of angels.

The first type of angel is seraphim. Seraphim are the angels closest to the throne of God. A seraph protects the light and illumination of God. In Isaiah 6, we see these type of angels with six wings—two to cover their feet, two to cover their faces, and two to fly. These angels are also responsible for worship.

The second type of angel is cherubim. Cherubim have four wings, unlike the other angels that have six. Their purpose is to guard or to cover and protect the glory of God. So, the moment you get anointed or receive a gifting or calling, a cherub will be assigned to you.

We know God is the Creator. Colossians 1:16 says, “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” In contrast, Satan can only transform what has already been created, so some angels have demonic counterparts. Thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers each represent a type of angel or fallen angel.

“Principalities” are fallen angels that had the power to transform themselves. They took on forms in line with where they fell. For example, Leviathan was a sea creature (see Isaiah 27:1). What were once angels of faith became demons of fear and chose to follow Satan and operate on the other side of their abilities.

“Powers” are angels which supervise the movement of heavenly bodies, like planets and stars. They also represent God’s power. However, there are powers that became demonic. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

“Thrones” are angels that are symbols of God’s justice and authority in the Spirit. Daniel prophesied about thrones, saying, “I watched till thrones were put in place, and the Ancient of Days was seated” (see Daniel 7:9).

The Bible also talks about “dominions.” It says Jesus Christ sits far above all rule and authority, power and dominion” (see Ephesians 1:18-21). That is why He gave His disciples the Great Commission (see Matthew 28). There are demonic spirits over cities, towns, states, and nations, but they can lose their dominion when the gospel is preached.

Then there are ministering angels. These angels are ordained to minister to you after a great time of trouble or trial. They are to help you with strength, just as when they ministered to Jesus in Matthew 4.

Then there are watchers, which watch over you and give a report to God about you. We read about them in Daniel 4:13.

In Luke 2:13, we also read about celestial singers, “a multitude of the heavenly host” which sang at Jesus’ birth.

There are also demonic sons of God that willingly left heaven and took on physical form. We read about them in Job 1, where it says the sons of God spoke to God, and Satan was with them.

Last but not least are harvesting angels, which we will see more of in the coming days. The job of harvesting angels is to bring in the end-time harvest of believers. The Bible says when Jesus returns, “He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect” (see Matthew 24:30-31).

Recently, I woke up and heard a sound like something being sharpened with a flint rock. I heard it seven times. I later prayed and asked, “Lord, what was that sound?” The Holy Spirit spoke to me just as clear as I’ve ever heard Him, and said, “The angels of harvest are sharpening their sickles.”

How do we release or meet angels? Well, we don’t pray to angels, but we can ask God for their help. The key is we must expect to see and receive help from angels.
