As a believer, the Bible says you should, “conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you” (see I Peter 1:17-20).

God gave the first man, Adam, dominion over the earth until he lost it because of sin. However, God sent His Son Jesus to redeem us from sin. The sinless Lamb of God died to take on the sin debt of the world, so man could take back the earth to which he was given original dominion. That’s why, at the second coming, we will rule and reign with the last Adam, Jesus.

Even after the price was paid at the cross, Satan must still be forcibly expelled from earth before our redemption is complete. Satan is like a squatter. Squatting is when a person breaks into a vacant house, lives there without permission, and must be forcibly removed. When Jesus comes back, He will take back His rightful ownership of the earth after being away in heaven preparing a home for His bride. When He returns, He will take possession of the redeemed earth, which He purchased with His blood.

Judah and Israel were once taken into Babylonian captivity for seventy years; they were forced out of their land. God eventually restored the land to them, but He first gave the prophet Jeremiah instructions to carry out a prophetic act. In Jeremiah 32:6-7, God told Jeremiah to buy his uncle’s field, knowing the Babylonians would not honor the purchase deed. He bought the land and saved the scroll until it could be unsealed and honored, making the land purchase complete.

In Revelation 5:1-5, we read about another important scroll: “And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?’ And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. But one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.’”

Then in Revelation 5:6-7, John said, “And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.”

Here, we see a picture of redemption. The Son of God, Jesus Christ, is the Lamb who went to earth as a man, died, was resurrected, and ascended back to heaven. Now the time has come for Him to finally unseal the scroll and reclaim the earth.

Notice He is called the “Lion of the tribe of Judah,” but John saw “a Lamb as though it had been slain.” What does this mean? The “Lion of the tribe of Judah” represented power. The “Lamb as though it had been slain” was a picture of sacrificial love.

Many have said Jesus first came to earth as a Lamb but will come back the second time as a Lion. However, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He was, is, and will be both the Lion and the Lamb. Though strong and powerful, He conquers through love and not force.

God’s picture of the second coming will not be to conquer in a worldly way. His power will be the glory of His presence. He will overcome the earth, unrepentant hearts will melt in His presence, and those who love Him will be changed to become like Him.
