Deciding who will regulate and manage artificial intelligence (AI) will be the most important decision made about AI. As Christians, who are all called to be priests, we should be earnestly praying for the right people to make the right decisions about this world-changing technology and for wisdom from above for those making these decisions.

Since AI has already been released and is being used by virtually everyone in the modern world, it is a major factor we must deal with. For those of us who know the Holy Spirit, AI is not something we should fear, but it does deserve great care and initiative. AI can be one of the most valuable tools yet for humanity—and one of the most dangerous.

Here is what I am praying for:

       1. For wisdom from above for all who are involved in the development of AI.

       2. For competent and responsible human developers and managers, and for those who would use AI for political or social agendas to be identified and rejected.

       3. For wisdom from above to implement safeguards that maintain control of AI and establish the parameters for its use.

       4. For the exposure of any who would use AI for nefarious purposes and the restriction of those individuals.

       5. For emergency shutdown policies and procedures for any AI that departs from its assigned parameters and procedures.

       6. For the establishment of an AI monitor that could detect suspected breaches of policies or procedures and have the authority and power to take AI systems offline.

These are just a few things for which we can pray. In such an imperfect world, these will be continual challenges. We would have to be in a perfect world to expect any of these to work perfectly. This is why we pray: We need help and wisdom from above, which the Lord promises to give to those who ask in faith. Our faith must be in the Lord, not in people’s abilities.

As priests, we are not here just for ourselves but for our cities, countries, and the whole world. Missionary and Bible school founder Rees Howells had governments turning to him for prayer during World War II, which shows there is nothing as valuable as effective prayer. Effective prayer is having authority with God, which is far better than any amount of authority we can have with men.

As we have addressed before, with all of the crises we’re facing today, it is hard to imagine how anyone who does not know the Lord makes it through another day without having a nervous breakdown. This is why we’re here—to lead them to the only Hope that the world has—and He is a Hope that will never disappoint.

Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” So, the remedy for anxiety about anything and everything is prayer to the One in Whom we believe.

Of course, this does not mean that all we are to do is pray. We were not put on this earth just to consume its resources, but to cultivate it, make it fruitful, multiply, and take dominion over it rather than let it take dominion over us. The Lord has given us His Holy Spirit, who created this world out of the chaos it was in, and with the Holy Spirit, we can and should confront any chaos that threatens us or the creation.

When considering many of mankind’s developments, including AI, nuclear energy, and a host of other elements that can result in good or bad, we cannot forget that God gave authority over the earth to men. This is why He may know what we need, but He will do nothing until we ask Him.

The Holy Spirit that has been given to those whose trust is in Him is infinitely smarter and more powerful than anything that man could release on the earth. However, we do not have authority over God or His Holy Spirit, but we have authority with Him. We may not know anything about AI, but we can have great influence over it with prayer. Don’t worry; pray!

So, let us always be thankful for this awesome creation He has made and put us in, and let us be responsible with the position He has given to us and be good stewards of it.
