Why do so many Christians think they should only pray about things that relate to church, to themselves, or to Christians? We have biblical exhortations to pray for all people, especially all who are in authority. This is a basic responsibility that we have as priests to the Lord, which all believers are called to be.

Should we just let artificial intelligence (AI) loose and trust the Lord? Of course, we trust the Lord, but that does not mean we should do nothing. Too many use the fact that the Lord is in control to justify doing nothing. He sent us the “Helper,” not the “Doer.” He will help us if we will do our part.

God’s counter to everything that would ever do us harm is the Holy Spirit. All of the AIs in the world, even if combined and multiplied, will never be smarter or more powerful than the Holy Spirit. Yet, He requires us to do our part even though we are so feeble. Why? As we are told in Psalm 115:16, “The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the earth He has given to the sons of mankind.” The Lord delegated authority over the earth to mankind, and He will not usurp this authority. This is why He will not move on the earth until we pray. He could easily defeat all enemies for all time without any of our help, but He wants to do it with us and through us.

When the Spirit moved over the earth in the beginning, the earth was in more chaos than we could ever imagine. Yet, look at the beautiful creation He brought forth out of the chaos! There is no amount of chaos that we could ever create that would be any problem for the Spirit to fix. We can completely rest in that.

Of course, we should ask for His help at the beginning of something becoming a concern, not after we’ve exhausted everything we can do. Now, is it not common for us to ask for His help only after something becomes a crisis? Why is this? Is this not because we put trust in ourselves or human “experts” before we even think of Him?

The Lord did give man authority over the earth, and we like to do things ourselves. However, the Lord did not design us or the earth to be that way. The Lord created man to be His unique and devoted friend. He created man to do all that he was given the wisdom and ability to do with Him because He must be our first love.

When man was deceived into thinking he did not need God and could not trust Him, it broke a crucial basis of man’s true authority: unity with God. Man was given authority over the earth, but this was never intended to be exercised alone, but with God. When the Fall opened a breach between man and God, this opened the door to all of the chaos mankind is now experiencing while trying to run the world by itself, without God.

Man thinking that he can run the world without God is at the root of every human problem. Thinking that we can run our personal lives without God is the root of all of our personal problems. Therefore, the answer to every human problem is to return to Him and to never forget that we cannot do this without Him.

There is an easier way to do everything: do it with Him. The Lord wants to be our best friend and do everything together with us. He is also committed to our free will, so we have to want this relationship with Him and be intentional about seeking it. He knows what we need more than we do. What we need more than anything is Him. But He will not force Himself upon us. That is why He will not do anything until we pray and ask.

So, start praying today about AI, whether you use it or not. If you do use it, pray before you open it, asking the Lord for fellowship as you learn it and for His wisdom as you use it. As we learn anything, we should seek the Lord as our Teacher and Shepherd.

And let us try not to do anything without Him again. We were made for this fellowship and unity with Him in everything. Everything we do together with Him will be far better than anything we do alone.
