Much of what I have used in this study has been from a historical view of Revelation, which was common and almost universal in the Protestant church before the 1844 Advent Movement. It was during that movement when much of the emerging evangelical church embraced a more futuristic understanding of Revelation. As noted, I have studied most of the perspectives of Revelation and have found some merit to most of them. However, some of the holes and contradictions in the futuristic perspective would be resolved with an understanding of the historic view.

          The Book of Jude precedes the Book of Revelation in our New Testament. In it a portion of Enoch’s prophecy is quoted about the “mighty ones” that accompany the Lord’s appearing (see Jude 1:14). Jude is like a preface for Revelation, and it is placed where it is by divine design as it helps set the stage for the message of the Book of Revelation.

Last week we discussed the gospel of the kingdom and the transcendent leadership we can expect for the coming Great Awakening. In relation to this, in 1982 and again in 1988 I was shown a coming “new breed” of leadership in the body of Christ. I was shown the nature of this new breed. To date, I can say that it has still not emerged, but there is a convergence of prophetic evidence that it is maturing and about to emerge.

If we are looking for new wineskins, we should also expect new wine—a new message. If this is the final harvest that is the end of the age, then we know that this message will be the “gospel of the kingdom.” We can expect this to begin to eclipse the main focus since the Reformation, which is the gospel of salvation.
