We must be born again to see the kingdom, but not all who are born again see it. They can, but they don’t. Why? That is an important question that needs to be addressed for all who are about to be born again, and for all who have been in the past but still do not see the kingdom. We must see—and start living in—the kingdom of God in order to preach the gospel of the kingdom.

       A common reason many are born again and yet fail to see the kingdom is because their main focus remains on this present, temporary world. We live in this world now, and we must focus on it, but this should never eclipse our focus on the kingdom. The simple remedy for this is to seek His kingdom first. He promised that if we did this, keeping His kingdom as the main devotion of our life, everything else we need would be given to us.

       Have you ever noticed how so many seemingly wise sayings are often contrary to Scripture and seem designed to divert believers from the path of life? One good example is, “They are so heavenly minded they are not any earthly good.” If they are that heavenly minded, they are likely doing more good on earth than anyone else.

       Virtually everything in “this present, evil world” that is presently under the power of the evil one is seeking to divert us from our heavenly calling and bring us back down to earth where he can control us. What does the Scripture say? “Therefore, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:1-2).

       We may see the kingdom when we are born again, and it may become the greatest devotion of our life for a time, but the cares and worries of this world can gradually cloud our vision until we lose it. It would be better to lose everything we possess on earth than to lose our vision of the kingdom.

       Again, the simple remedy is to get our life back on track by seeking the King and His kingdom above everything else, always keeping Him as our first love. How do we do this and manage all the obligations of this life? We trust the Lord to keep His promise that if we do this, He will take care of all the things that we need, and He can do this far better than we can. Do we trust Him? Do we believe His word?

       Now, what is often referred to as the kingdom today is not really His kingdom. Much of what is referred to as “kingdom” today are really the works of men. These may be good works led by well-intentioned men, but how do we know if God is really in them? By God really being in them.

       Just as Moses prayed not to be sent anywhere that the Lord’s presence didn’t go with him, we must have the same resolve. In Luke 10, where the Lord sent out His disciples to preach the kingdom, heal the sick, and cast out demons—which are at this time the works of the kingdom—He only sent them to where He Himself was going (Luke 10:1). We must learn to resist going anywhere or becoming part of anything, even the most noble missions, if He is not there. Seeing good works does not mean He is in something. We must see Him in them.

       The kingdom is where the King is, and He has dominion. There are many churches and ministries that men have built which may adamantly claim that the Lord is the Head of them, but the evidence is otherwise. We must only go to where the Lord’s presence is.

       The earth has the highest calling in the universe. God the Father is coming to the earth to dwell among men. Then, this little speck of dust in the universe will be the capital of the universe. He is coming after the Lord Jesus has come and established His kingdom here to redeem and restore this world from all of the consequences of the fall. His will is going to be done on earth just as it is in heaven.

       We’ll later cover all the biblical prophecies that address this, but the Holy Spirit is in the world now preparing for Jesus to come, and Jesus will prepare for the Father to come. Our Father is in heaven, and where He goes, He takes heaven with Him. We are called to be His temple, His dwelling place, now. This is the main work of the Holy Spirit now. This is where we will find Him now. We must learn not to go anywhere that He is not going to go.
