Remember that the three aspects of the prophetic are the following: 1) revelation, 2) interpretation, and 3) application. To help illustrate these, I will relate some personal stories as well as other peoples’ stories that I personally witnessed. I will start with one that reaches back 24 years but is becoming relevant today.

If we speak the true word of God, we are likely to make a lot of people mad. We will likely be called false prophets as well as other colorful adjectives.       We have been discussing Christian maturity in relation to the prophetic—especially how it can impact the way we interpret impressions. On the impression level of prophetic revelation, the immature can be prone to mix in their own feelings, even when they are temporary such as caffeine withdrawal, prejudices for good or bad, and opinions. It does take the kind of experience that can only come from maturity to learn to separate what the Holy Spirit may be impressing upon us and what are our own senses.

     True Christian discipleship is a life of sacrifice, not acquiring. This does not mean that we should not provide well for our families, as we are also told in I Timothy 5:8, “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.” However, there is a difference between providing for our families and being materialistic, greedy, or even immoderate.

    Prophetic impressions are the most basic prophetic revelation and are usually the way that the Lord begins to speak to us. This seems to be because we are called to be His friends, and He wants us to feel what He feels, not just be automatons who do what He tells us. God created man to have fellowship with Him, and He is seeking messengers who will share His heart for the message.
