God’s love, truth, and justice are more powerful than any evil. Perhaps the most astonishing consequence of earth’s story is that, even after mankind rebelled and the earth fell into deep depravity under man’s dominion, God Himself determined that He is going to dwell on the earth among men! That reveals God’s absolute commitment to our redemption and restoration.
This will make the earth, which has experienced the full maturity of evil and debauchery, His capital city of the entire creation! That is the depth and power of His redemption, reconciliation, and devotion to restoration. That which fell is restored to an even higher place than from where it fell. Should this not give us hope for anyone—or any place—regardless of their present spiritual state?
So, the book of Revelation reveals the ultimate consequence of turning from God and giving evil its way. Then, it reveals the ultimate power and hope we can have in God’s mercy, grace, and redemption when we return to Him. We see this in Revelation 19 when the “Great Harlot,” the counterfeit church, is judged and the Bride of Christ is then revealed. What we are called to in Christ is higher than what Adam had. After the fall of the creation, He brought forth a “new creation” that is even better!
Our Father in heaven so loves His Son that we’re told in Scripture that all things were created by Him and for Him, and all things will be summed up in His Son. Yet, God so loved the world that He sent His Son to pay the highest price in all of creation—the life of His Son—to redeem the fallen. He will send Him again to restore the fallen. The Son so loves the world that He would empty Himself of His glory to come to earth and dwell among us, and then pay such a price for us. How can we ever doubt His love for us?
This is the marvel of heaven now, and it will be the marvel of the earth, too—forever. As we see in Revelation, the most honored title of the Son of God for eternity will be “The Lamb.” How can our holy God love us this much? He does this because He is Love and could not do less. This we will only be able to grasp when we see the depths of depravity we have been delivered from—and that is the main message of this Revelation, how much He loves us.
More important than knowing what is written in the book of Revelation is becoming a bondservant of the Lord so that we can understand the book of Revelation. We do this by understanding Christ. By abiding in Him and being committed to His plan, we are prepared for the things that are written in this vision. This is why I have included so much teaching on matters that are basic to being a disciple of the Lord, along with some basic concepts of what is revealed in Revelation. Discipleship is required before we become bondservants.
This coming year, we will spend more time on understanding the prophetic symbols and narrative in Revelation to see how it was fulfilled in history or is yet to come to pass. This will give us a much greater understanding of our time. But, more than just understanding, we must seek to see the Lord’s glory in it all. We are changed into the image of the Lord by beholding the glory of the Lord (see 2 Corinthians 3:18).
If we spend more time looking at deceivers and their deception, we will become like them— fearful, paranoid, and bitter people who are intimidated by and reject others who are not just like them. This is why many “heresy hunters” take on the nature of the heresies about which they try to warn us. By this they can spread more fear and deception in the church, and do more damage to it, than the heresies they claim to be fighting.
So, let us proceed with the deepest resolve to look for what the Revelation was given for—to reveal Jesus Christ, His nature, and His authority.
